"Gotta Toccata"

Julia Callaway Postludes at the end of worship are instrumental pieces which are usually loud and lively in nature. Some times they are based on hymn tunes. In the past we had monthly Postlude Mini-Concerts at VSCC which featured several selections. During 2010, we are planning to present a toccata style postlude on the last Sunday of each month. (Definition of toccata from Wilkipedia: A virtuoso composition, usually for the organ or another keyboard instrument, in free style with brilliant passagework.) On January 31, the postlude is the Toccata in b minor by French organist/composer Eugene Gigout. If you attend the 10:45 service, you are always invited to be seated or stand near the chancel to listen more closely to the postlude at the end of worship.
"Gotta Toccata" next month will feature a toccata setting by Anna Laura Page of the hymn tune EBENEZER .
