The Clendening Family

Jim Clendening's daughter, Michele Neely, broke her leg last week while in Chicago on business.   She returned to her home in Atlanta and consulted with a specialist to learn her break was worse than she thought.  She will undergo surgery Thursday, March 17 at Emory in Atlanta.  Pam and Jim will be in Atlanta over the weekend.

Update from New Zealand

We are very grateful to receive many messages of love, concern and support from members and friends of Vine Street Christian Church. Right now it's 7am Sunday morning March 6 in New Zealand, and we will drive back into the city to meet this morning for worship and fellowship inside our building which has been 'green-stickered' as safe to use!. (Last week 40 of us managed to negotiate the broken roads, bridges and sidewalks and met in the parking lot!)

Another update from Lorraine

Lorraine Jacobs sent this:

So sad to learn the first person named as dead was a high energy popular teaching colleague of ours, Brian Taylor. He was Principal of the English Language School. Many students and staff are still buried there. Brian's very capable wife Pru is principal of my High School (Christchurch Girls' High School), and Phillippa's client. Our lovely damaged city of Christchurch is really a 'village' of 400,000. Very sad :(

Thank you, friends, for remembering the people of Christchurch in your prayers.

New Zealand update

Our friend Lorraine sent this:

The city's infrastructure is so damaged, but the underlying individual personal emotional infrastructure is hidden and that's really going to be a much more serious problem longterm. Please care/pray/support those real needs. The Salvation Army and many other church and secular counseling and practical helpers need funding support and personal support.

As always, Week of Compassion connects our desire to offer material support and our neighbors' need for neighbors.

New Zealand earthquake

The news is still coming in about the earthquake that struck the city of Christchurch. We know that there was serious damage to buildings, including the cathedral. We know that many people were injured, and some have died. We are grateful that the buildings were mostly built well. Our friends, Lyndsay and Lorraine, and Phillippa are well. Phillippa's home was badly damaged, and there are no utility services, but she and her partner are fine. Please continue to hold the people of Christchurch in your prayers.

Prayer concerns

Mary Frances Tallent died peacefully on Monday morning, February 21, 2011; she was 94 years old. We remember in our prayers her children and their families, and all who love her. Visitation will be on Saturday morning, February 26, at 10am at Vine Street Christian Church, followed by the funeral service at 11am. Click here for obituary

Jack Forstman will undergo further tests this week, but will almost certainly have heart valve replacement surgery very soon. We had all hoped that the episodes of arrhythmia he had experienced could be treated with medication. Thank you for remembering him and Shirley and their family in your prayers.

Julia Keith asks for prayers for her step-mom, Mary Kathryn, who is healing from a broken hip; Julia's sister, Beverly is having health problems as well.

A year ago, on February 17, 2010, Steve Lowry was in a serious car accident; he suffered multiple serious injuries. We are grateful for his healing, and with him we look forward to the day when he will pick up and play his guitar again.
