Children's Ministries
At Vine Street Christian Church, we believe children are an important part of the life of our church, not just the future of our church, but valued members of our community right now. Our hope is that every child who walks through our doors experiences an environment where they feel safe, loved, and free to be curious. We want church to be a place where children can grow in faith, build meaningful friendships, ask big questions, and discover what it means to be part of a loving community of faith.
Nursery (9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m)
On Sundays, our nursery is open during the Sunday School hour and worship service for children ages 0-3 years old.
Sunday School (9:00 a.m.)
There are two children’s Sunday School classes:
Juniors Class - ages 4 through 8
Middlers Class - ages 9 through 12
This year, we are using curriculum from Disciples Home Missions and Illustrated Ministry as a guide in both classes. We’ll begin the year exploring social-emotional faith formation, then turn our attention to biblical stories about the earth and celebrating God’s creation. During Advent, we’ll explore the theme of the Will to Dream.
Children's Worship
(during the 10:00 a.m. worship service)
Children are always welcome to worship alongside the congregation during our 10 a.m. service. At each entrance near the bulletins, you’ll find a black Worship Basket filled with coloring sheets, paper, pencils, markers, crayons, fidgets, books, children’s Bibles, and other activities to help children engage during worship.
For children ages 4 through 10, Children’s Worship offers an additional opportunity to explore faith in a way that is engaging, creative, and age-appropriate. During the music before the Scripture reading, children are invited to gather at the front right of the sanctuary before heading to the chapel just outside the main sanctuary. They will return to the sanctuary in time to share Communion with their families and participate in the closing portion of worship.
Children’s Worship is rooted in a play-based approach inspired by Godly Play and Worship & Wonder. Together, children will hear and wonder about Bible stories, learn songs, ask questions, and explore what it means to be part of God’s story.
Children's Choir
Children of all ages participate in choirs that give them the opportunity to sing, play instruments and most importantly grow in their faith together. Periodically during the school year, the children share their musical gifts in Sunday morning worship.
In recent years the children’s choir has also performed a holiday musical to help the congregation prepare for Christmas during the Advent season.
