Tuesday update

Jim Zamata asks for prayers for his brother, Glenn; he has been diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Glenn lives in Crossville, TN.

Dick Schellhardt expects to move from the health care unit back to their condo at the Heritage after Thanksgiving. We are grateful that he has regained so much of his strength!

Denise Mistich will have her last day in the church office on Wednesday. Please hold her in your prayers as she transitions to her new work with The Lazarus Project. We also ask for your prayers for our staff as they prepare to take on additional responsibilities for a while, and for the personnel committee who are studying resumes and beginning the interview process to fill the position.

Monday Update

Joe Keith's mother, Ollie Thompson, is being treated for an infection at St. Thomas.

Dan McGeachy's mother is very ill with cancer, and his dad is having serious health problems as well. Dan added his beautiful voice to the choir on Sunday, for their moving rendition of How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place from the Brahms Requiem.

We celebrate the ministry of the Vine Time children! They made necklaces and, selling them for $1 each, raised $47 for our ministry with the homeless. Thank you!

Wednesday update

Al Smith continues to receive physical therapy at Richland Health Center and he continues to feel better and stronger. His daughter is organizing some minor modifications of his home (gravel driveway needs to be paved, a couple of doors need to be widened); once the work is done, there's a good chance Al may be able to return home.

Monday Update

Carroll Wallace, a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of Jericho Brass in Chattanooga, asks for prayers for his grandson, Garrett Travis. Garrett has a very rare disease which returned recently, and is now recuperating from surgery. Jericho Brass played in worship on October 2, World Communion Sunday.

Barry and Lynne Elvin

Barry and Lynne have worshiped with us for a few weeks, and they have been attending Nouvelle Alliance's services to prepare for an extended mission to the Congo next year.

We just received word that Barry's brother and his family were among the victims of the September 16 plane crash at the Reno Air Races. Barry's sister-in-law was killed instantly by the impact. Barry's brother, his two sons, and one of their wives all had amputations of their right lower legs and are hospitalized in Reno. They are receiving excellent care from all levels of the staff here and their spirits and attitudes are good considering the situation. They are still having to undergo numerous surgeries as part of the process of cleaning out all the metal and debris that has been causing infections.

We are grateful that Barry and Lynne were able to be with their family and look forward to welcoming them back to Vine Street on Sunday.
