Benjamin Wheeler

We remember Benjamin Wheeler, 6 and all who love him. He was killed on Friday, December 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

We are mourning the loss of all the children and adults who were killed that day. Our capacity to take in and process such a tragedy is very limited. Most of our media offer us a lot of information within a very narrow time frame, and we know that after only a few days our attention will be drawn to other events, thoughts, and conversations.

We attempt to remember those who have died and all who love them, and to allow that memory to shape our prayers as well as our thinking. Each Sunday, we speak one of the names in worship, and this practice will take until sometime in June. We take time to process this violent loss and to consider possible consequences.

Viola Sigmon

First she was in a bit of a hurry (two weeks early), and then apparently she said to herself, "What's the rush?" Viola Sigmon was born just after midnight on May 29. She is beautiful, with the most elegant baby hands the preacher has ever seen! She weighs about 6 pounds and we forgot to ask for her length in inches - but who wants to know that anyway when there's such an angelic face to behold? Congratulations, Casey and Phill, and welcome to the world, Viola!

Cuba trip

A prayer request from our Regional Minister, Dr. Glen Stewart:

"Please join with me to pray for Barbara Bekaert, Joanne Flowers and Sonia Wilkinson. These three Tennessee women are leaving today to attend a biannual women's retreat of the Christian Pentecostal Church in Cuba, a Global Mission Partner of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Pray for their safety, for their positive experience and for the relationships they will make while in Cuba."
