Winter Retreat 2015
Several members and friends of Vine Street Christian Church are experiencing Winter Retreat 2015 now through Wednesday! They are enjoying the beauty of Christmount, a Disciples-related camp and conference center in Black Mountain, North Carolina. This all-church event has become a wonderful tradition for our community, and we ask for God's blessing on all who are participating.
Alex Brandau
Alex Brandau remains in the hospital, but we learned from Linda Edwards he is feeling better. We are grateful for this improvement and continue to hold him in prayer.
Melanie Gao
Joe Parsons, Melanie Gao's father and the grandfather of Grant and Audrey, died on Thursday, December 17. Melanie and the children along with other members of the family are traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Thank you for your prayers for the family and all who love and miss Mr. Parsons.
Betty & Shelton Pilkinton
Betty Pilkinton has been in the hospital. Shelton shares there are plans to discharge her home with hospice care by the end of the week. We offer prayers for peace and comfort for this family.

Donna Woods asks for prayer for her grandson, William. He is in an Austin, Texas hospital due to complications from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Phoebe Binkley
We pray for Phoebe Binkley, who was in the hospital last week and is at Richland Place for additional care. We pray, too, for Carolyn Binkley, Phoebe’s daughter, who helps to provide care for her mother.

Judi Sachs asks that we pray for the Bob Goldberg family. Bob died recently. Judi’s dad was a close friend of Bob’s.

Lyn Dorris asks for our prayers for her mother Frances and Pat Smith, Lyn's aunt. They are hospitalized after a car accident last night. She also asks for prayers for the family and friends of Don Dickerson.

Larry Adams asks that we pray for his friend Julie Ward, who has leukemia. We pray that a new treatment will be helpful for her.

Helen Trabue asks that we keep in our prayers her father Orlan Lorton, who has been hospitalized with complications from pneumonia.

Christian Youth Fellowship Retreat
We are grateful for the beauty of Middle Tennessee's Bethany Hills Camp & Conference Center, and more for all the ways Christian faith is nurtured there. We celebrate our students who have been attending this weekend the regional youth retreat of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee, including Clare, Miles, Sarah and Molly.
A Sunday Update
We give thanks today for all the saints of Christ's church, especially those who have influenced our Vine Street Christian Church community.
We celebrate Erik Cole, who grew up in this church and is the son of Pat & Ed Cole. Erik was appointed this week by Mayor Megan Barry to be the director of the Office of Economic Opportunity and Empowerment. Congratulations, Erik!
We celebrate, too, Dr. Jim Crenshaw as Vanderbilt Divinity School and the Graduate Department of Religion at Vanderbilt University honored Jim last week with a Distinguished Alumni Award. Congratulations, Jim!
Andra Moran & Stephen Daniel King
Andra Moran, a former Vine Street staff member and longtime friend of this congregation, shares news that she and her husband Stephen are expecting a baby girl in early March. They ask for our prayers and we share in their joy!

Bill Cannon’s mother, Shirley Cannon, died on Thursday, following a long illness. A gathering to celebrate Shirley’s life was today in Shelbyville. We pray for peace for Bill, Debra and all who love Shirley.

The Rev. Dennis Clark and his wife Cathy visited Vine Street Sunday from Oklahoma. Rev. Clark asks that we keep in our prayers his mother, Aileen Clark, who is in the hospital locally recovering from a massive stroke.

Anne Fairfield shares that her son and caregiver Mark Daugherty is in the hospital with a blood clot in his leg and lung. She asks for prayers for Mark, that he will be able to relax and to be aware of God’s presence. We pray, too, for Anne’s continuing peace.
