A good surprise

Juanita, a good friend of Helen and Malinda, received the surprising news that a matching kidney had become available. She had transplant surgery early this morning, and she named her new kidney Hope. We are grateful and we pray that Juanita will soon regain her strength.

Monday update

Andrew Reed was commissioned into the Army after his graduation from Belmont University. The Reed family is having an "open house" celebration on Friday, May 11, 7pm-9pm for him and Dr. Steve. All Vine Streeters are invited, but please let Nina know you're coming. It's a family affair, so feel free to bring the kids.

Jack Wallace asks for prayers for his mother and the family as they make difficult decisions about where she will move to meet her needs for daily assistance.

Erica Well asks for prayers for Kemal and his family. He is the son of a friend and suffered severe injuries to his head and face, requiring multiple surgeries.

Cheryl Russell concluded her internship with us on Sunday. Thank you, Cheryl, for all the ways you have contributed to our life and ministry, especially your fine sermons! After the summer, she will return to Vanderbilt Divinity School for her final year in the M. Div. program.

Michael Ligon

Mike was discharged on Thursday, and he is happy to be at home. His throat is still hurting, and he is very hoarse, but being with his family and sleeping in his own bed will help him get well soon. We are grateful that this frightening episode came to such a happy conclusion.

Mike Ligon

Mike is recovering from emergency surgery on Saturday. He had an abscess in his throat due to a strep infection. His recovery so far has been very encouraging, and we hope that he will soon be able to move out of the ICU. Please hold him and Sarah in your prayers.

Trayvon Martin

We ask for prayers for the parents of Trayvon Martin, for young African-American men who grow up with the weight of suspicion on their shoulders, for their parents, and for all of us. Fear and violence reside so close to each other in our hearts. Let us pray that we may learn to see each other's faces, and not merely projections of our own fear.

Tuesday update

Evelyn Goen, the mother of Larry Adams's friend, David, is not doing well. Evelyn lives in Kentucky and is a member of the First Christian Church in Frankfort.

Helen and Malinda's friend, Juanita, will have additional surgery this week to amputate a toe. She continues to struggle with circulation problems in her feet and hands.

Five of our children are preparing for their baptism on Easter: Boyd Berhow, Emily Berhow, Miller Freeman, Sarah Matthews, and Molly Lyons.
