Rev. Dr. G. Bronson Netterville

Bronson Netterville died peacefully midday on Sunday, November 24, and we like the thought that he may have passed right after the benediction at the end of our worship service.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. Go in peace to love and serve our God, to love and serve your neighbor for Jesus Christ is Lord.

We are grateful for Bronson's life, for his love and service, and we rejoice in hope, for God in Christ has opened the door to eternal life for us.

The funeral service will be at Vine Street Christian Church on Saturday, November 30, at 1:00 p.m.  Thank you for your love and prayers for Margaret and her family.

Roger and Martha

There are any number of ways to ask for prayers remembering John Egerton, who died Thursday morning at age 78. You will hear stories about his love of southern food and culture on the radio, you will read about him in local and national papers, perhaps sample a few paragraphs of his front porch journalism, but we want to remember him especially as a close friend of Roger and Martha Bishop.

Martha wrote, "He was one of those people we would never want to give up. He was very supportive of other writers and of Roger. He saw it as his mission to  keep scores of us up to date on Will Campbell's condition from the time of his stroke until his death."

We pray that God will help them and all who miss John to let love transform their grief into gratitude.

Roger and Martha also ask us to remember Ava Sellers who is quite ill with a blood disorder. Her 94th birthday is Sunday, November 24. As her only family they are very much involved with her care and affairs.

Philippines

Week of Compassion has already responded to the destruction and harm caused by typhoon Haiyan, thanks to our Global Ministries partners at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and is poised to respond through the ACT Alliance after their rapid response assessment is completed.

"We will continue to monitor this enormous disaster as it will undoubtedly affect hundreds of thousands of people. Please pray for those in harm's way and join us as we reach out to them in their time of need."

To contribute, go to the online donation page or write a check to Vine Street Christian Church, memo: WOC Phillipines.

A big Thank You to all who responded to Teresa's appeal for help in the recovery efforts after the earthquake on the island of Bohol. We were able to send a check for over $1,200 to the church on that Philippine island.

Miles Kleinert

At its annual meeting on October 25-26, the Board of Disciples of Christ Historical Society elected Miles Kleinert to serve on the Board for the 2014-16 term. Miles continues the legacy of Vine Street members who have served on this Board, beginning with founding member Eva Jean Wrather in 1941. However, Miles is the first ever member of any Christian Youth Fellowship to be elected. Congratulations!
