We're happy to share news that Joe Keith is doing well. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, his knee-replacement surgery actually happened on Monday. Yesterday, he was up twice--and thrilled that it felt good to do so. Rehab is set for later this week. He and Julia continue to be grateful for our prayers.
Welcome new members
Several people have joined the Vine Street Christian Church community recently. We are grateful to Hollie Johnson and her daughter, Samaya, and to Debra and Bill Cannon for their reaffirmation of faith and dedication to shared ministry. We pray that together we will grow closer to the ways of Christ.
Doris Snow
We pray for Doris Snow, the grandmother of Micah Snow. She has not been well again this week and it appears she has a limited time to live. We pray for her comfort and for her family’s peace.
Tuesday update
We connected recently with Shelton and Betty Pilkinton, who send greetings and ask for our continuing prayers.
Mary Ann Schellhardt sends her greetings to the Vine Street community, too, along with appreciation for our prayers.
And we pray for Joe Keith. He will have knee replacement surgery next week.
Family of O. David Cline
Betsy and David von Dohlen request prayers for the family of O. David Cline, who died Sept. 5 after a long illness. He is David's uncle.
Barbara Tallent and her family
Barbara Tallent's brother, Thomas Lee, died. He took his own life, recently. We pray remembering Thomas, and we pray for Barbara, her parents and siblings, and all who love Thomas.
Prayers for peace
A prayer request left for the Vine Street community asks that we pray for our brothers and sisters of Muslim faith, those who work for peace and justice: for solidarity with them; for wisdom and patience on their behalf as they experience racism.
Ted, Brian Berhow's friend
Brian Berhow asks that we keep his friend Ted in our prayers. Ted will have surgery later this week.
Doris Snow
Micah Snow asks that we keep his grandmother, Doris Snow, in our prayers. She has been in the hospital the past few days. Fluid has been collecting around her lungs and doctors are working to discover why. She's been recovering recently from cancer treatment, too. Micah says though her body is weak, her spirit remains strong.
James Foley
“The brutality of this act is itself evidence of an unspeakable evil that is rampant and inhuman. To the prayers that have been offered since his captivity almost two years ago, we now add our prayers for James’s eternal rest and, in Christ Jesus Our Lord, James’s future resurrection to eternal life. Our prayers also must accompany a sorrowful mother, a grieving father, a deeply pained family and countless friends who have kept vigil all this time. May we also pray for those who have embraced the way of darkness and death, that they may turn away from this terrible evil now and forever.”
–Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester

A memorial service is being planned for later this year.
Congratulations!
On a recent trip to Minnesota, Erin Johnson asked Allyn Steele to marry her. He said yes! Congratulations, Erin and Allyn! A wedding date has not been set yet, but they agree that it will be not too soon and not too far in the future.
Paul Johnson
Paul Johnson will have surgery on Tuesday, Aug. 19 to remove his gall bladder and repair an incisional hernia. The family is especially concerned about the possibility of the anesthesia making his memory loss permanently worse. "Please hold us close to your hearts in your prayers. Love, Mary Ann"
Family & friends of Teresa Boyd
Pat Bentrup's sister-in-law Teresa Boyd died this morning. She had been suffering from cancer. A funeral will take place on Sunday, Aug. 17. Please keep Pat and all who love Teresa in your prayers.
Teresa Boyd
Pat Bentrup asks that we remember in prayer her sister-in-law Teresa Boyd, who has been suffering with cancer. Teresa is being discharged today from the hospital to home with hospice care. Please pray, too, for Pat's strength and courage--she has been pitching in to help several other folks in need recently, too.
Calin Trabue
We are keeping in our prayers Calin Trabue. He had an accident on the playground yesterday. We pray for his comfort and healing, and we look forward to his bright spirit returning to church soon!
