Elizabeth B. Mooty

We received an obituary note from Michael Mooty, retired pastor from Central Christian Church in Lexington, KY who spent early years at Vine Street where his parents were members while Michael’s father, Alex Mooty was on the Regional Staff.

Elizabeth Brewer Mooty died Sunday (of course) at the age of 96. Well done, good and faithful servant! A native Texan and graduate of Southern Methodist University, she was the wife of the late Alex Mooty, and is survived by her grateful family, sons Michael and Bob, daughter-in-law Sarah, soon-to-be-daughter-in-law Helen Beth, and two grandsons, Boone and Caleb. Elizabeth was a natural as a pre-school teacher, a voracious reader, and was always ready to extend a hand to people who needed a friend. She had little tolerance for grammatical mistakes by those who should know better (like her children), and persons who were ungrateful, proud, or hard of heart. Small in size and large in spirit, she will be missed by family and friends and welcomed as an interesting, lively addition to whatever awaits us. A time of grateful remembrance will be held Saturday, January 3 at 1:00 at Timberlake Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Timberlake Christian Church Memorial Fund or your favorite charity.

Elizabeth Lawrence

Risley Lawrence shares that Elizabeth has been discharged from Woodcrest and is now home. He invites his Vine Street Christian Church family to join him in offering prayers of thanksgiving. "This is the best Christmas present I could ask for!" he said. She will need several days to rest quietly. Next week, short visits may be in order, depending on how Elizabeth feels.

Priscilla Hutton

Longtime Vine Street member Priscilla Hutton died early this morning. We join her family in celebrating her life, offering, too, prayers of comfort for Betsy, David and Ryan von Dohlen; Suzanne and Ross Rainwater; and all who love Priscilla. Arrangements are in process; a memorial service will be scheduled for early January.

Disciples of Christ Historical Society

Please keep the staff and friends of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society in your prayers. These folks have been experiencing many changes recently, as outlined in part in a press release yesterday. For the staff, we hope their livelihoods will be secured and that they will have the opportunity to practice their craft so that our church story will continue to be preserved. For the decision makers involved, we pray for clear minds and a just spirit as they make a way forward.

Elizabeth Lawrence

Elizabeth Lawrence is now a resident at the health center at Blakeford. Risley and the family are her cheerleaders as she participates in physical therapy to regain her strength after her recent hospitalization. The process requires courage and determination, and we pray for both.
