World Communion Sunday and More

Vine Street Christian Church had the privilege Sunday morning of celebrating World Communion Sunday with our sister congregation, Nouvelle Alliance. We are grateful for the spirit of unity and peace we receive from Christ, and we pray we will carry this spirit into the world for all.

Tom McAninch, a Vine Street friend and former choir member, has returned home from the hospital where he was receiving care for pneumonia. Tom welcomes our prayers as he continues to recover.

Phoebe Binkley expresses gratitude for all the ways the Vine Street Christian Church community has supported her these past few weeks. She is home now, continuing to feel better.

The Elders of Vine Street Christian Church

Today during worship, Vine Street Christian Church commissioned its elders serving during the 2015-16 church program year. As they pray for each of us, please share prayers on behalf of: Julia Keith (chair), Linda Edwards, Sara Tarpley, Larry Adams, Bob Lyons, Charlie Biter, Kathy Zamata, Stephen Moseley, Ed Cole, Camille Biter, Jack Wallace, Julia Callaway, Rachel Dixon and Martha Bishop. We are grateful for these women and men, along with all of our church leaders.

Joe Crowell

Joe Crowell died on Saturday morning. Please keep in your prayers his wife, Joyce, along with their family and friends. Arrangements are not yet finalized. However, Vine Street Christian Church will host a memorial reception, tentatively set for Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 29. Details, once they are available, will be shared Monday by email. Or, you may contact the church office at 615/269-5614 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for more information.

Friday Updates

Phoebe Binkley shares two pieces of news. First, she has been discharged from the hospital and is now at Richland Place for some physical therapy. She’s feeling better and is grateful for all the support she’s received these last few days.

Next, Phoebe is proud to share that her grandson Adrian Binkley won his division of the 2015 Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival. Adrian, a high school student in Madison, Wisconsin, has played at Vine Street a number of times. The competition was near Hartford, Connecticut on Sept. 12. Congratulations, Adrian!

Julia Callaway shares she is home following a hospital stay this week. She expresses gratitude, too, for the support she has received from church participants and friends.

Our thanks to everyone for all prayers that help to care for the joys and concerns of our Vine Street community!

Welcome Lillian Florence Sigmon

We welcome to our world Lillian Florence Sigmon! She is the daughter of Casey and Phill; Viola is the proud sister. Casey says after a long wait, Lillian couldn't wait to get here, arriving swiftly on Friday afternoon. She is a sturdy 8 pounds 7 ounces, 21 inches long and is very healthy and happy. Mom is feeling good and everyone is home together. Congratulations to all!

Prayers for Unity

Today Vine Street Christian Church participated in a call to prayer for reconciliation, joining the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Churches Uniting in Christ and the National Council of Churches. To learn more, click to discover some resources for unity noted by Reconciliation Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Check back later in the week for Rev. Thomas Kleinert's reflections on today's worship scriptures and this church-wide effort, which will be posted on his blog.

Margaret Netterville

Margaret Netterville continues to recover in an Ashland City nursing home from a broken arm following a fall. To put it simply, she has not been feeling well and eagerly welcomes prayers from her Vine Street friends. Want to drop her a card? Go for a visit? Please email Greg Rumburg for details (greg@vinestreet.org).

Welcome Erica Hayden

On Sunday we welcomed with joy Erica Hayden to the Vine Street Christian Church community. A local history professor, she lives in Bellevue with her family. As our reception of members liturgy says, we promise our friendship and prayers as we share the ministry of the church of Jesus Christ.
