Christmas Eve

We invite members, friends, and neighbors to celebrate the birth of Christ with us! On December 24, we will gather for worship at 4:30 p.m. and again at 11:00 p.m. The 4:30 service is intergenerational, interactive (including a no-rehearsal nativity tableau!), rich in stories and songs, and designed with young children in mind. The 11:00 service is Vine Street’s take on the Lessons & Carols tradition and includes communion.

The Year of Luke

On the church calendar, a different Gospel guides us in our worship each year. The year that began on the first Sunday Advent follows Luke, which includes the beloved Christmas readings and some of the best known stories like The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). Our Wednesday morning Bible study will begin a 10-week exploration of Luke on January 9, with the excellent Interpretation Bible Studies volume by Thomas Walker as their study guide. The group meets weekly at 7:30 a.m. in a meeting room at 40 Burton Hills Blvd. While the group welcomes new students anytime, the beginning of this new series is a particularly good opportunity. If you are interested, please contact Thomas Kleinert.

Young Adult Retreat

Rico Carls, Alex Cauthen, Will Carson, Kara Reed, Elena Nourabadi and Clare Crenshaw will spend a few days together this week at Christmount. We wish them safe travel, and may they add a lot of good new memories to the ones they bring!

Nominate New Leaders

The nominating committee is still receiving recommendations for two at-large members for the Administrative Council as well as five members of the new Board of Trustees. You may submit names online as well as via this form which also includes detailed information about this special election.

Children & Youth Summit

Please mark your calendars for January 13th after worship to discuss, dream, and plan for 2019 children and youth programming. Allison wants to hear from all voices, so lunch will be provided for all and childcare will be provided for our youngest ones in case they get a major case of the wiggles. Look for a follow up e-mail to help Allison know how much food to prepare!

Summer Camps

Some families start making summer plans in January, so here are all the camp dates for Bethany Hills. More details will become available in the spring. And speaking of Bethany Hills, did you know that the lodge is getting a new roof this winter?

Holiday Office Hours

Thomas Kleinert will be out of town December 26-29. Please contact Allison Ruari (812-606-2793) or Linda Brandau, chair of elders, if you need pastoral assistance. The office will be closed December 24 and 25, as well as January 1; Thomas and Allison will be available via mobile, though.
