Graduate Recognition Sunday is May 26th! If you or a family member is graduating from high school, college, grad school, or trade school, please let Allison know the following no later than May 20th: from where they are graduating, what program, and any future plans you’d like to share. We will recognize our graduates, their hard work, and their accomplishments in worship that day!

Building Update

The Administrative Council has decided to work with Cyril Stewart as the architect for our building renovation project. Mr. Stewart has many years of experience, including as head of architectural services at Vanderbilt University. As part of that role he was lead architect in the transformation of 100 Oaks Mall. He is now in private practice, but continues to be passionate about updating existing structures for changing usage demands. The first phase of work includes a thorough review of all mechanical systems and developing basic, conceptual design ideas in response to the building priorities the congregation identified last year. We’re excited—soon we’ll get to see some of the possibilities!

Learning to say No

“I have come to think that the fourth commandment on sabbath is the most difficult and most urgent of the commandments in our society, because it summons us to intent and conduct that defies the most elemental requirements of a commodity-propelled society that specializes in control and entertainment, bread and circuses … along with anxiety and violence,” writes Walter Brueggemann in Sabbath and Resistance. Our adult education group meets on Sunday mornings at 9 in our fellowship hall, and this Sunday they will begin unpacking rich paragraphs like the one just quoted from Brueggemann’s timely and challenging book. You may join the group on any Sunday morning. To find out more please contact Jim Zamata.

Monday Men

Join us for a burger and beer at M.L. Rose on Charlotte on Monday, May 6, at 6 p.m. Monday Men is a monthly opportunity to drop in, enjoy a beverage, and talk with other Vine Street men about our day, things going on in the world, or the latest movie. If you’d like to hear some more, please contact Thomas Kleinert.

Mark Your Calendar

Come and join us on Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at Broadway and 8th for the Nashville Pride parade. We will go as a group in support of our LGBTQIA kin in their struggle for equality. We will probably meet at the church and take the bus.
