McLaughlin family
T.J. is in Illinois for a few days to be with his mom. She is recuperating from mastectomy she had on Wednesday. The surgery went well and tests of surrounding tissue were encouraging; we hope with her that additional test results will be negative as well and that she will soon be well. Thank you for your prayers.

Ted asks for prayers for his father who had surgery on Sunday morning to remove a kidney stone.
Rosie Alexander
The storms on Tuesday created a tornado near Smyrna. The home of Rosie and Bob was damaged, and their Winnebago was flipped over. Thankfully, nobody in the house and the neighborhood was injured. Rosie is the daughter of Howard Evans.
Dick Schellhardt
Dick is at St. Thomas for what is expected to be a brief stay to remove excess fluid that made it difficult for him to breathe. We share his and Mary Anne's hope that he'll be able to return home before the weekend.

Father of the Bride

Anniversary of the Tucson Shooting
A year ago, six people were killed and 13 suffered bullet wounds, when a gunman toting a semiautomatic pistol pumped bullet after bullet into a crowd gathered for a congressional outreach event outside a Tucson supermarket. U. S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot through the head but survived; she is still recovering. We offer prayers of gratitude for the courage of ordinary people and the healing the survivors have experienced, and we continue to ask God "to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace (Luke 1:79)."
Bob Register
We ask for prayers for Bob Register, Rachel Dixon's father. He is having vascular surgery today; two prior attempts were not successful.

Lyn Dorris
Lyn asks for prayers for Charles and Phyllis McLeroy. Charles was diagnosed with lung cancer on 11/29. They discovered it had already spread to his liver and spine. Hospice care has been started this week. Charles is the founder of Residential Services where Lyn was a social worker for 14 years. He started RSI to help children get out of Clover Bottom and be able to live with families, go to school and be a kid. He fought many battles along the way. He has been a voice for people with disabilities and many, many children in state custody - touched many lives.
Charles passed away over the weekend. Please continue to remember his wife in your prayers.
Alice Cannon
Alice was discharged on Christmas Day with a special gift: her pathology report came back. She had a fast-growing kidney cancer, but it was fully contained. The removal of the kidney was sufficient, and she won't need follow-up treatment like radiation or chemo. That's great news! Alice is at home, and while still feeling a little weak and taking some meds for pain, she is doing great.
Deb Steeves
Deb asks for prayers for her step-father, John; he has Alzheimer's and was recently hospitalized with pneumonia.
Our friends in New Zealand
Thanks to Linda Edwards for checking in with Lyndsay and Lorraine after she heard the news about yet another series of earthquakes in Christchurch, NZ. This is from their response:
We're fine thanks - it was not a nice day (5.8, 5.3 and 6.0 plus 20 or more smaller ones to make people feel uneasy almost without a break!) but we're all OK apart from tears of exhaustion and stress for many. Mega Advertising (and many businesses) closed for the year yesterday morning or Thursday evening. But Phillippa went in to check on the state of the office after the first big shake, and found 4 computer monitors tipped over, and the water cooler tipped, broken glass everywhere in the kitchen, etc, But then the 5.3 happened and she skidaddled right out of there! The 6.0 followed later - but I don't think she's been back in again yet.I phoned everyone on our church directory in my role as emergency check up person, and pastoral care convenor. The minister's family moved house yesterday - what a day for that! At least it kept the three girls (14, 11, 7) busy making their bedrooms into 'home space'!Please pass on our love to any Vine Streeters who are concerned.
