Cuba trip

A prayer request from our Regional Minister, Dr. Glen Stewart:

"Please join with me to pray for Barbara Bekaert, Joanne Flowers and Sonia Wilkinson. These three Tennessee women are leaving today to attend a biannual women's retreat of the Christian Pentecostal Church in Cuba, a Global Mission Partner of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Pray for their safety, for their positive experience and for the relationships they will make while in Cuba."

Jessica Rekos

We remember Jessica Rekos, 6 and all who love her. She was killed on Friday, December 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

We are mourning the loss of all the children and adults who were killed that day. Our capacity to take in and process such a tragedy is very limited. Most of our media offer us a lot of information within a very narrow time frame, and we know that after only a few days our attention will be drawn to other events, thoughts, and conversations.

We attempt to remember those who have died and all who love them, and to allow that memory to shape our prayers as well as our thinking. Each Sunday, we speak one of the names in worship, and this practice will take until sometime in June. We take time to process this violent loss and to consider possible consequences.

Kristin Keen

Kristin Keen, our Vine Time Teacher, will be graduating on Saturday from Belmont University with a degree in English with a concentration in Education. She will be moving home to Porterville, California where she will begin a program to be certified to teach and pursue a Masters degree. May 5th is her last Sunday at Vine Street. Thank you, Kristin, congratulations, and may God bless you!

Caroline Previdi

Amanda Miller

Amanda's Grandma Bonnie has Alzheimer's, and her mom and dad returned from their visit in Nashville to find that she'd undergone a precipitous decline while they were gone. The family made the decision to call in hospice care, and they are hoping for peaceful, pain free last few weeks, and that as many family members as possible can make it to South Dakota for visits. Thank you for your prayers for Bonnie and her family.

Tuesday afternoon

We had Al Smith's funeral this morning, our hearts filled with gratitude. Thank you for your prayers for his family and friends.

Ruth Skinner was in a car wreck on Saturday, but thankfully she only has bruises and no serious injuries.

Lyn Dorris asks for our prayers for her friend, Wendy who had surgery on Monday.

We pray for the family of Greg Rumburg. His uncle, Harold Jeffries died on Saturday; this is a heavy load to bear for Greg's mother who lost two brothers within just a few weeks.

We hold in our prayers those who were killed in the attacks on the Boston Marathon, their families and friends, those who were injured, and those who work hard to find the person(s) responsible for the bombings. We offer special prayers for all those who just don't feel safe anymore, anywhere. Lord, have mercy on us all.

Al Smith

Al died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 13, at his home at Richland Place. He was 89 years old. Funeral arrangements are being made, but plans to have a visitation at Vine Street on Monday night and the funeral on Tuesday morning still have to be confirmed. Thank you for your love for Al and your prayers for his family.
