The Vine Weekly: May 14, 2017

A congregational workshop Monday evening at 6 p.m. (yep, that's May 15, folks) highlights everything that happens after we celebrate mom.... Read more below!

People and Prayers

Mary Ann Johnson has been in the hospital following a recent fall. She fractured several bones including her pelvis, but is in good spirits and hopes for a speedy recovery. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Join Us For Children’s Sabbath Next Sunday

On May 21, experience a unique worship service designed especially for the inner child in all of us! That’s when Vine Street Christian Church will be lead in worship by our children. And the Children’s Choir will delight all with special music! Come to Children’s Sabbath, Sunday, May 21 at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary!

Engaging Congregational Workshop May 15

One of the exciting outcomes of our congregation’s decision to sell a portion of our property to Montgomery Bell Academy is the opportunity to renew and upgrade our remaining Vine Street property and building. A major first step will be a congregational workshop to explore options and make initial recommendations about possible changes and upgrades to our property. All members and friends of Vine Street are invited to gather in Fellowship Hall on Monday, May 15. We will start with a simple meal and drinks at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. we’ll move into a “charrette” format, a process designed to involve all participants in an enjoyable and realistic consideration of options for the future. Hastings Architecture will lead the exercise.

Come and help us build a vision for how our property and facilities can best serve our ministries in the years ahead! Questions? Contact Ed Cole (edcole1@me.com). We are Vine Street: Living Our Call!

A Dandy Table Shared at the Picnic

At the conclusion of the Alameda/Vine Street picnic on May 7, participants were asked, “Where did you see God today?” The answers were varied: in all the food; in the squeals of children; watching the dog in the creek; the teams playing football in the field;  Dara’s patience while teaching dominoes; Shelton playing catch with Thomas; the weather; new friends; when I finally found Pavilion #10; and on the faces of everybody. What a great day to connect with sisters and brothers of faith! Thank you to the Fun Committee for bringing us all together. Members include: Molly Lyons, Johanna Keith, Jeff Miller, Eva Evans, and Linda & Tim Crenshaw. Hope Hodnett served as the staff liaison. If you have any feedback about the picnic, please share it with a committee member.

Hey, Vine Street—Let's Play

On May 21, the TNT Club and Vine Street will be celebrating the end of the school year with a play date. It's simple—come play! From 2-3:30 p.m., we’ll be throwing balls, hula-hooping, playing cards, blowing bubbles, eating cake, and keeping the boredom out of board games. Join us for this stress-free event in Fellowship Hall. Able to volunteer? Contact Rev. Hope Hodnett (hope@vinestreet.org). The TNT Club is a community ministry for adults with developmental disabilities. The TNT Club meets monthly for social gatherings, and volunteers of all ages are a necessity.
