Holy Week 2018: Special Services and Events Lead to Easter's Celebration

We don't need to travel through the shadowlands alone. Discover again the mystery of Christ's love as we gather to reflect on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Palm Sunday • March 25 10 a.m.

Cheered for in one moment. Reviled in another. What can the story of Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem mean for us today? Our mostly-traditional worship service begins at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Also, Communion in the Chapel, a weekly prayer service, will be available at 8:30 a.m. Christian education begins at 9 a.m.

Maundy Thursday • March 29 6 p.m.

We’ll gather in the Sanctuary to celebrate the institution of the Lord’s Supper, “on the night before Jesus was betrayed.” The service consists of prayers, readings, songs, communion, and a simple foot washing ritual for those who wish to participate.

Maundy Thursday Youth Overnight Vigil

Our youth will engage in prayer and reflection.

Prayer Vigil: Thursday 7 p.m. to Friday 6 p.m.

The privilege of praying for others and for ourselves especially rises during Holy Week. How about offering 30 minutes of your time to join Vine Street in prayer? You may pray wherever you wish. Contact a staff member to participate.

Good Friday • March 30 6 p.m.

We gather again in the Sanctuary for a reading of the passion story from the Gospel of Mark, prayers, and songs. We’ll also “strip the Sanctuary,” a ritual of mourning in the context of Jesus’ death. Our baptism candidates will engage in a retreat during the day Friday. Please continue your prayers on their behalf.

Easter Sunday • April 1

Waffle breakfast 8:30-9:30 a.m. Fellowship Hall

Celebrate this special day in the church year by sharing breakfast with Vine Street! Our youth are preparing some of the best waffles this side of a waffle iron. Great toppings, plus juice and coffee, help us to fuel-up for the day!

Worship 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary

As the scriptures proclaim, "Arise, shine, your Light has come!" Discover again the meaning of resurrection in your life. Proclaim with others how we can live in life-affirming, rather than life-destroying, ways. Some of our youth will be baptized, plus we'll enjoy special music in one of Nashville's most beautiful Easter settings.
