Bob Binkley died earlier today. Thank you for your prayers for the family, especially Phoebe and Carolyn. Bob will be cremated, and we are making plans for a memorial service later this month.
David and Betsy Von Dohlen
David and Betsy are the proud grandparents of Theodore Luna Von Dohlen who was born on September 26 in Minneapolis to Chris and Mary Ann. Priscilla Hutton is the happy great-grandmother.
Al Smith
Al was treated for lung cancer six years ago. A recent test showed a tumor in his left lung; he will begin radiation therapy very soon, and the prognosis for this particular treatment option is very good. Please remember Al in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead.
Monday Update
Pat Bentrup is mourning the death of her friend, Sam Barnwell, and asks for prayers for her family.
Merle Horst, a friend of Pat Bentrup's, recently had a tumor removed from his brain. The tumor turned out to be cancerous. Please keep Merle, his wife, and three young children in your prayers.
Doug Branson is mourning the death of his cousin, Chris Quinn, who died recently.
Virginia Grimm was hospitalized on Sunday after experiencing severe chest pains. Tests showed that her heart is fine, and she should be able to return home later today or early Tuesday morning.
Carolyn Binkley
Carolyn is at home. Her doctor has been able to make physical therapy arrangements so she could be with her parents as Bob's condition deteriorates. Thank you for your continuing prayers for the Binkleys.
Mikeal and Emily Trump
Emily was hospitalized on Sunday for monitoring after experiencing premature labor. She and the baby are fine, and there's a good chance she'll be going home Monday afternoon. Thank you for your prayers for the Trumps.
Carolyn Binkley
Carolyn is now at Richland Place in room #220B. We hope she will regain her strength and be able to return home soon.
Elizabeth Lawrence
Elizabeth went to the hospital this morning to have her heart shocked back into rhythm. Before they started the procedure, they checked her heart one last time, and everything was perfectly in synch! Elizabeth was able to go home right away, and the doctor is confident that they will be able to maintain her heart rhythm with medication. Thank you for your prayers!
Monday Update
Elizabeth Lawrence will receive outpatient treatment for atrial fibrillation on Tuesday. Please keep her and Risley in your prayers.
Brooke Hall (she is our Wedding Liaison) asks for prayers for her nephew Zachary. He has been in the hospital for a few days fighting a battle with Crohn's disease. He is in a lot of pain, losing quite a bit of weight, and he is currently too sick for surgery. "Please pray for a quick recovery as he is missing out on his senior year of high school."

Elsa Rose Bentrup was born to Benjamin and Amelia Bentrup on September 11. She was born at home, weighing 6 lbs and 18'' long. Mom and baby are doing well. Siblings Heidi, Greta and John are excited about the new baby. And grandma Pat is happy to share the news - but she has to lay low for a couple of weeks. She just learned that she has a cracked pelvic bone. She has everything she needs for the time being, but it grateful for your prayers.
Mark and Dana West became good friends during our prison:360 about a year ago; we also met some of the women who live at the Rivera House. We ask for prayers for their good work both inside and outside Tennessee prisons. Their current newsletter contains a remarkable letter from an inmate, Ken Parnell.
Prayer concerns
Joyce Stewart asks for prayers for her friend, Taja, age 39 who has had a stroke. She lives in Jackson, TN and is presently in Vanderbilt; the only family she has to care for her are two older siblings who live in west Tennessee.
Nina Reed asks that we keep Mikey's family as well as his friends at Kindergarten and their teacher, Molly in our prayers. Mikey died yesterday. See previous post
The violent death of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other American personnel in Libya is a painful loss to their families and friends, and to this nation. Many Libyans may never know that they also lost one of the best friends of their people. We pray for the families and for all who serve in the foreign service in dangerous places. We continue to pray for peace, and that mutual respect will define the relationships between followers of different religions.
And the best news of the day: Jim Foglesong completed radiation therapy, and now he can say, "I had cancer." We share the weight of each other's sorrows and concerns, but what happiness to share each other's joys and celebrations!

Monday Update
Nina Reed asks for prayers for Molly, a young Metro Kindergarten teacher, and the family of one of her students. Molly writes, "There is a little boy in my class who is in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital right now. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in January and last week he lost vision, speech, and mobility. His name is Michael (Mikey). The doctors told the family to say their final goodbyes last Tuesday and he has pulled through every night. Please keep him and his family in your thought and prayers."
Charlie Biter asks that we continue to pray for his brother's infant grand daughter, Bradley who is suffering from a liver condition.

Walter Harrelson
Walter Harrelson died on Wednesday in Winston Salem, NC. To those of you who knew him, his obituary will bring back fond memories of a good friend and teacher. To all of us it tells the story of a life well lived. Thank you for your prayers for Walter's familiy.

Helen Trabue asks for prayers for her friend, Denise and her family. Denise's 15-year-old niece, Kabrina lost her battle with leukemia on Thursday.
Sad news
Judi Sachs's dear friend, Sherry died from complications after surgery. Judi will be in Indiana to attend the funeral this weekend.
Martha Short died in a tragic accident on Wednesday. Funeral plans are still being made, and we will post more details as they become available. Most likely the service will be on Saturday morning at Vine Street. Thank you for your prayers for Martha's family.
Martha Short - Visitation will be on Saturday, September 1, at noon at Vine Street, followed by the funeral service at 2pm. The burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Hope Hodnett
Hope Hodnett was diagnosed with superficial thrombophlebitis and cellulitis on Monday. She has her leg propped up while she awaits the results of more blood work and biopsies. Due to the risk of blood clots, her Doctor has cancelled her vacation to Vancouver. She may get bored if you don't send her an email.

Rachel Dixon's father, Robert Register, Sr., suffered a stroke last week. He has been at the VA, but will be transferring to Baptist Rehab today. Please keep him and the family in your prayers.
Rachel asks for prayers for their good friend Craig and his wife, Colette. Craig's twin brother, John died from melanoma complications on Sunday in North Carolina.
Tropical storm Isaac became a hurricane Tuesday that could flood the coasts of four states with storm surge and heavy rains on its way to New Orleans, where residents hunkered down behind levees fortified after Katrina struck seven years ago this week. May our friends on the coast be safe.
