Prayer concerns

Pat Bentrup's sister-in-law, Teresa Boyd, has cancer and is currently exploring treatment options with her physicians.

Josh Cauthen will leave on Friday for work as a Fulbright/Clinton scholar in Malawi. He will be there for 10 months. We celebrate this accomplishment and pray for a safe and successful stay.

Charlie Biter is looking forward to holding daughter Annie's first child. Her due date is in March.

Sara Tarpley is looking forward to having her very first local granddaughter next year!

Jan Volck's friend, Gabriella Mittlestaedt passed away last week. Thank you for your prayers for her family and friends.

Monday night, Vine Street hosted a group of Immokalee farm workers. It was good to share dinner and prayers with them, and many Nashville friends joined them for a vigil at our neighborhood Publix store. We pray for a safe journey home for them and for success in their quest for better work conditions and wages.

Rita Brandon

Rita Brandon traveled to Ohio for the funeral of her father-in-law, John Brandon, Sr. Rita and her husband John just moved back to Nashville a few months ago, after her husband's retirement. She is a dear friend of Carol Doidge's and has worshipped with us several times. Thank you for your prayers for her and the family.

David Strasinger

We ask for prayers for David who is recuperating from a serious infection. He is currently in rehab for physical therapy, and we hope with Joan that he'll be able to return home in a week.

Lindsey Krinks

We ask for prayers for Lindsey Krinks as she continues her ministry on the streets of Nashville, now as Open Table's Director of Street Chaplaincy and Education. Donna Woods

Donna asks for prayers for Pam, the mother of her daughter-in-law. Pam is having breast cancer surgery Tuesday, September 10th. In the past year, Pam's husband had breast cancer, also. Their daughter is married to Donna's son, James Barr.

Monday update

Walter Seifert was 2013 recipient of the "Andrew Jackson Medal" awarded for "notably distinguished service in the cause of Freemasonry, Humanity and Country".  The medal was presented during the 199th Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Tennessee, which has 330 subordinate Lodges with total membership of forty two thousand .  Walter has been a Mason for fifty five years and has served as Grand Historian since 2008. Congratulations, Walter! 

Bob Faires, the father of our former intern, Diane Faires, had knee replacecment surgery in Nashville on August 23. Everything went well and went back home to Clarksville on Sunday!

Steve Reed’s grandmother, Gladys Heier (sp?) is 99 years old, and her strength is declining. The family asks for our prayers for her and her daughter, Madeline, Steve’s mother, who is taking care of her.

We continue to remember the peoples of Syria and Egypt in our prayers, and ask for God's guidance and wisdom for all who make decisions about their future.

Madison Church of Christ

Many of you will already know that the building of the Madison Church of Christ flooded during the heavy rains on August 8.

When we asked how things were going and how we could help we received this kind response, "Things are still in quite a mess, although clean-up is going well. We are still on generator power and probably 2 weeks away from having electricity and AC restored. The rebuild is going to be a long process, and I can't tell you how much it means to have such kind thoughts and acts from fellow believers."

We will collect a special offering on Sunday and send it to the congregation - not that it will make a big dent in their rebuilding budget, but it will be a gesture of our support. We have received a neighborhood outreach grant from Week of Compassion, and we will add our gifts to it, and when the time comes, we will stand ready to help with rebuilding the damaged rooms.

Please bring or mail your check to church by August 21, memo: flood relief, and continue to remember the congregation and all they serve in your prayers.

Cara & Billy

In case you haven't heard the news... Jolene is very excited!

And to spell it out a bit, Cara and Billy Doidge Kilgore are expecting a baby, and Carol will be a grandmother!

Chris Trabue

We ask for prayers for the family of Chris Trabue; his grandmother, Mary Trabue, died on Friday.

Flooding

Doug and Caitie Branson had 6-7 inches of water in their home this morning, and Katie McLaughlin was watching the water come up to the backdoor of their house. We hope there won't be any more rain today. If you have some time on Friday, and know how to clean a house, please get in touch with Hope Hodnett or Doug and Caitie. Thank you!

Netterville family

Bronson and Margaret Netterville are celebrating the births of two new great granddaughters.  Evaliyna Slack was born on June 23 in Honolulu, HI to Shane and Veronica Slack. Most recently, on August 5th here in Nashville, Audrey Fox was born to Rachel and Doug Fox. Congratulations!

Monday update

Jim ClenDening asks for prayers for his aunt, Carrie Robinson; she is critically ill. He also asks us to remember her daughter.

Linda Edwards started radiation therapy today.

Today is the birthday of Ted Lee and Risley Lawrence. Happy Birthday to two of the best!

Sandy Crow

Lester McNatt asks for prayers for Sandy Crow; she has pancreatic cancer. Sandy is the wife of the minister at Owen Chapel, where Lester served as worship leader.

Linda Edwards

These past few weeks have been quite an emotional roller coaster for Linda. In addition to the joys and concerns we already shared, she also received news that she has a malignant tumor in her breast. She is scheduled for a lumpectomy on Tuesday, July 30, and we all hope with her for good pathology reports. Thank you for all the ways you surround her with your friendship and your prayers during these difficult days. 

Mark has been making good progress in physical therapy and he is scheduled to go home on Wednesday.
